It doesn’t surprise me that Activision is coming out with more Guitar Hero games but this is getting ridiculous. Today Activision confirmed the release of both Guitar Hero 5 as well as Guitar Hero: Van Halen. On top of that they also announced Band Hero and DJ Hero.

The naming difference between Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero confuses me a bit. Activision says that Guitar Hero 5 “gives players an unprecedented level of control over the way they play the game with the ability to drop in and out of songs and change band members, instruments and difficulty levels on the fly.” They also state that Band Hero will be rated E10+ and that their focus is to have more of a family oriented experience.

So it sounds like the main Guitar Hero 5 will still have the full set of instruments with the drums and microphone. So it seems strange to me that they also have a separate game titled Band Hero and I think that this could end up getting confusing to the average consumer looking to purchase one of the titles.

As far as DJ Hero goes, that idea still seems weird to me. I just don’t see how a DJ game can get sales anywhere near those of Guitar Hero or even DDR.
