Adventures in Copy Editing: Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition
I’m not quite sure why, but “Collector’s Editions” seem to be all the rage these days. OK, I probably do know why. I like the cool chachkis too, but in my old age, I’ve also come to appreciate that my games all fit neatly in the DVD rack. So these days, I just stick to the normal stuff. They’re cheaper, and I don’t have to waste space in my junk drawer with some furry keychain that’ll never get used. Do only stupid people buy the special editions? At least that would explain why companies like Capcom don’t work too hard to ensure their promotional materials are up to snuff.
Packed inside the XBOX 360 Collector’s Edition of Street Fighter IV (that totally doesn’t belong to me) is a promo flyer with an XBOX Live redemption code so you can download alternate costumes for some of the characters. As you can see from the photos, the flyer is most definitely intended for the XBOX 360 crowd. What with the XBOX 360 branding, XBOX Live logo, and explicit instructions for how to navigate the controller (“the round silver button”), it’s hard to think this could be mistaken for the PlayStation 3 flyer. Somehow, though, readers are told to “Check the PlayStation® Network often for more Alternate Costume packs…”
I’m a bit of a copy nazi, so I won’t waste your time detailing any errors from the instruction manual, but this one was just funny enough to mention.
Did anyone get the PS3 version to compare?
