Maybe I am just reading into this too much, but it would seem that the new title from Infinity Ward will not be considered part of the Call of Duty series. The studio is responsible for creating the series as well as one of the most successful games of this generation, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Treyarch is the other studio responsible for titles like Call of Duty 3 as well as Call of Duty: World at War.

Most of the people I talk with don’t like the Treyarch developed titles as much as the main Infinity Ward titles. It is possible that they are only removing the Call of Duty name because naming a game Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2 just sounds retarded. But maybe it is because Infinity Ward wants to differentiate it from the Call of Duty series. I wonder if Infinity Ward will stick with making Modern Warfare titles for the time being, or if they will ever go back to making a Call of Duty title.

The real question is, what are we going to call the game when asking a friend if they want to play? “Cod 4″ rolled off the tongue perfectly. I don’t want to say “Modern Warfare 2″ all the time, maybe we can call it “mwar 2″? Or will people just start calling it “cod 6″ the same way they call World at War “cod 5″?
