Look at Halo 3. All of that is done on the LIVE servers which then has the ability to connect to the bungie.net system. All of the online play and matchmaking and everything is all on LIVE. I think EA just wants more control over all of their games similar to how Blizzard is not including LAN play in StarCraft 2 nor Diablo 3. Ive had a lot of problems in Skate2. Plus The fact that you have to sign into the "EA nation" is a total pain in the ass, But maybe it was necessary for user created graphics...?
