Why the fuck aren’t you playing Heroes of Newerth?

Why the fuck aren’t you playing Heroes of Newerth?

Oh right, its still in beta. Hope you can find a key!

Heroes of Newerth is a remake of Defense of the Ancients, a Warcraft 3 map that you should have been playing until your fingers bled and you spoke fluent Korean. Normally I’m not a huge fan of the straight forward fantasy concept, nor am I a Warcraft 3 fanboy. But DoTA is something special. Its a game about balance and good form. You have to work with a team and think about every move you make. One player can really mean the difference between winning or losing. From the hero you pick, to the items you buy, even the order you tech your abilities, every thing you do changes how the game is played. If you can find a friend with a spare beta key, this is definitely worth checking out.

Spectate as Spector talks Epic Mickey

Spectate as Spector talks Epic Mickey

I love it when Game Developers delve into the secret catacombs of their creation process. It helps set the tone and feel for the game moreso than a usual trailer or press release. It also makes videogames more artistic as you can now critique games based off their thesis. Just ask me to talk about my Gears of War or Fable II opinions. Or not, I don’t care. I never got around to publishing them anyway.
But more to the point, here’s a video of Warren Spector talking about Epic Mickey and some of the history about the game. If you want more to spectate on, threre’s a great interview with the man right here.

What's wrong with digital distribution? (via Fear The Claw)

What's wrong with digital distribution? (via Fear The Claw)

[To contribute this week's wow-Alon-I-totally-agree-with-you article, we have guest author, Justin "The Claw", of "Fear The Claw's" Video Game Blog.]

It’s all the rage in music, movies, and now, video games. Digital distribution allows publishers to cut costs by reducing physical components, eliminating retail middle-men, and giving them more control over price. It also makes shopping more convenient for the consumer by allowing customers to make purchases from their own home. It saves time and money for both the publisher and the consumer. It sounds like a win-win situation.

Golgotron Panel 2: Benchmark Games

Golgotron Panel 2: Benchmark Games

Welcome to the second in an ongoing series of Golgotron Panels; where we ask our lovely group of writers to answer a question about their personal gaming habits and opinions.

What game do you judge all others upon? What is your benchmark video game? There are some games that aren’t really good, but aren’t really bad either. These mediocre games were good, but the really didn’t do anything well. Because of this, when you play another game, the statement “Well it was better/worse than X” helps you sum up the experience.

Reviews by the Hour: Too Human Part 3: Brutal Edition

Reviews by the Hour: Too Human Part 3: Brutal Edition

After a long and painful week of illness and birthdays, I am still committed to presenting you with Too Human one hour at a time. It’s all because I love you golgotronians. I love you so much that I promise to post much more next week! This week in Too Human, I found myself very much surprised by the change in its entire style. The game went from a sci/fi Norse mythology hybrid to a heavy metal paradise. Also, I applaud the games decision to recast the voice of Baldur with Jack Black. And, I must say that the game’s atmosphere really does look like an album cover.

It's all the same / Only the names have changed.

It's all the same / Only the names have changed.

Yes, the biggest games of the year dropped last week. Yes, Borderlands came out yesterday and apparently Rich loves it. YES, I should be doing my job and playing these new games in order to keep with the times, as well as reviewing them for you, the viewers. But no, I’m sitting at home, playing Dragonball Z Burst Limit. I know, I’m insane. But, because I have access to a soapbox on the Roman street known as the internet, I’m going to explain why I’m playing this.

Golgotron Panel: Games you wish you played.

Golgotron Panel: Games you wish you played.

Hello Golgotronia,

Welcome to the first Golgotron Panel; a question posed to our friends– the writers of the site– in hopes that they will dispose some friendly knowledge about themselves and their gaming habits. Be sure to come back every Sunday for another gripping question!

What game do you regret not playing? With so many games out there, it’s easy to miss a few in the ether. Be it because you didn’t have an Xbox to play Halo, or simply could never find a copy of ICO, we all have games we want to play but undoubtedly have missed.
