Golgotron Panel: Games you wish you played.
Hello Golgotronia,
Welcome to the first Golgotron Panel; a question posed to our friends– the writers of the site– in hopes that they will dispose some friendly knowledge about themselves and their gaming habits. Be sure to come back every Sunday for another gripping question!
What game do you regret not playing? With so many games out there, it’s easy to miss a few in the ether. Be it because you didn’t have an Xbox to play Halo, or simply could never find a copy of ICO, we all have games we want to play but undoubtedly have missed.

I missed out on almost every early PC game, and after playing The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition I realized what crime I had committed. Being born in 1989, I can only imagine the amazement of playing Doom for the first time online. I know I can play Doom now on almost any console, but it’s just not the same.

I have to come out and admit that I have never played Super Metroid and I really wish I had. When I was younger we had the Sega Genesis and then got the Nintendo 64. The first Metroid game that I actually really played was Metroid Prime and loved it. Then I played Metroid Fusion and my head exploded at how amazing it was, from there I also played Metroid: Zero Mission which was equally as good.
Sure, there are emulators out there and I could use my Xbox 360 controller to play the game and I have gotten an hour or so into the game but something about it doesn’t feel right. I really want to experience the game on an SNES with the proper controller to really get the feel for the game. In the spirit of outing myself to the world, I also have to admit that I only got about 5 hours into LoZ: A Link to the Past. If only new games didn’t exist, then I would find the time to go back and play some of these classic games.

I, unfortunately, missed out on all the great systems pre-GBA/GC/Xbox/PS2. This means that I also missed out on every classic Zelda title. Out of every game that I missed, the single title I most regret not playing isMajora’s Mask. According to most everyone I talk to, this is an utter travesty. Some say that it’s the best because it’s the only Zelda title to ever deviate significantly from the established formula (forest dungeon, get quest, mountain, make-you-want-to-gouge-out-your-eyes-difficult water dungeon, etc. etc.), while others tell me it’s the best simply because of it’s dark undertones. Whatever the reason is, I must play this game. And much like Rich (can I call him Rich?) pointed out, the experience just wouldn’t be the same on an emulator. Looks like I might be putting this one off a bit longer.
