Last.fm is a Strange and Lovely Thing

Last.fm is a Strange and Lovely Thing

So I have been listening to music on my Xbox 360 using the last.fm app all afternoon and it is great. I didn’t think that I would every actually use the feature that much but I figured I would at least check it out and it has been very good to me.

I haven’t actually signed into my last.fm account for a couple of years but that really didn’t matter. It turns out that it is really easy to use and plays some damn good music. One of the bands in the recommended lists for me was “Kid, You’ll Move Mountains” which totally surprised me since they are a band from back home in Illinois and once that I hadn’t listened to in quite a while. I didn’t hesitate to hit “play” for that station and it has been on all afternoon.

There are a handful of bands mixed in the playlist that I recognize and like and there are a few new bands that have been pretty solid as well. But what surprised me the most was when a song by “Inspector Owl” start playing. I almost should have expected this because they are from the same place. I just never would have expected the college indie band from Dekalb, IL who I have seen several times in awesome coffee shop indie concert and whose violin player is a good friend’s older sister to randomly start playing on my Xbox.

Needless to say my last.fm experience has been a splendid one so far as I sat in my living room all afternoon on my laptop with tunes blasting on my TV speakers. If any of you have a 360 and haven’t yet checked out the last.fm I highly recommend it.
