Gaming, Porn, & Synergy: Playboy does Bayonetta (poorly)

Gaming, Porn, & Synergy: Playboy does Bayonetta (poorly)

Just as American Idol attracts a subset of “singers” who have no business performing in public, Playboy is inundated with audition photos from women who simply shouldn’t be seen in public. Those are the girls Playboy puts in gaming shoots.

But there’s a more important question to be asked. Push yourself past the apparent fact that the girls used for Playboy’s Bayonetta lookalike contest are straight out of the trailer park (I know it’s hard, but try). Instead, ask yourself this: Did Sega pay to have this content produced as a means of disguised advertising, or is this collaboration between Sega and Playboy a pro bono job? Comment away.

As my gift to you, I’ve embedded the B-movie video clips of each Bayonetta below. I hope you like lollipops.

3D gaming will succeed…

3D gaming will succeed…

note from NamelessTed. This article is from a reader of the website known as ryhanon. He actually sent me the article about a week or two ago but I never got around to copypasta it on here. I am also too lazy to make an account to post under his own name so this will suffice for the moment. Ryhanon, sorry it took me so long to post this.

…but not in the way you might expect.

There has been quite a bit of talk and excitement over the prospect of 3D gaming of late. CES featured several big companies pushing their 3D offerings pretty strongly and it’s nigh impossible to read a gaming or tech website without finding their take on the effects this latest 3D phenomenon is having in relation to both movies and video games. Hey Look! We Made a Video!

Please don’t waste your time to watch this video. It really sucks, seriously. We were driving back to Phoenix after CES and stopped for a break outside of Flagstaff and thought it would be fun to shoot this little video.

When we shot it is seemed like a better idea in our sleep deprived and probably still a little drunk state. It turns out that the video sucks but I figured I would poorly edit it and put it on the internet anyways

Hardcore fans and Early Adopters Unite!

Hardcore fans and Early Adopters Unite!

Early adopters to technology have historically taken a beating from the very companies that they support in the cash flow department. This generation of game consoles has been especially brutal to gamers of all types. We have been given three solid home console and two portable platforms to choose from. And then it is all downhill from there. Multiple SKU numbers, versions, and bundle packages have done nothing but confuse and frustrate people. These aren’t the days when you start with a big clunky console that gets cut down to size after several years to a smaller, more compact model.

GolgoCast Episode 17: Reverend Anthony Edition (Plus DannyB!)

This week we entertained the jolly DannyB and the always delightful Reverend Anthony Burch at our podcast, the topic of discussion was IGF. Well, at least it should of been, let’s see how well we accomplished that goal.

Also note how I manage to sneak in a mini-interview with the Rev himself.

Year in Review: Best Family Games of 2009

Year in Review: Best Family Games of 2009

Starting out, video games definitely had potential to provide entertainment for individuals of all ages. Games like Pong, Pac Man, and Space Invaders could appeal to just about anyone. Over time, video games have come to grow and mature with their audience and now, not all games are for everyone. Since games like Doom, and Mortal Kombat, violence in video games has become such a hot topic in the media and the scape goat for such tragedies as Columbine.

Talking 'bout my generation

Talking 'bout my generation

The new year is now three weeks old and half of the population has already given up their resolution to lose weight. The other half either had a different resolution or are planning to go to the gym tomorrow if they wake up before noon. I chose to do something other than lose weight in 2010. My goal is to buy less games and play more free indie titles. This deal with myself led me to a great free bullet-hell title, Genetos.
In one sentence, Genetos would be called an evolutionary, cross-generational shmup. The game starts with a Space Invaders motif. White, squid-like aliens methodically drop towards you as you move left and right while being able to shoot two bullets-per-screen (Space invaders couldn’t process any more in 1978) at them. Once you blast enough Invaders into pixel dust you encounter a mutation; the level’s boss. Beat him and you advance to the next level (I know, I’m as surprised at that as you are); modeled after Galaxian. Level 3 is in the style of Galaga, and keeps advancing in levels modeled after the next evolutionary step in the Shoot-em-up genre.
