FFXIII Update: Real Xbox 360 Screenshots

If you read this site then you probably remember the article I put up last week about Square Enix putting out some doctored Xbox 360 screenshots through their online press kit. It took them long enough but they finally got actual screenshots from the Xbox 360 version of the game. You can head over to Kotaku to see the full gallery or hit the jump to see one comparison shot.

I am not even going to label these. I think you will immediately see the different and I would bet $10 that everybody can guess which one is the Xbox 360 screenshot. You can also view each image in full resolution to really see the differences.

I’ll be buying it on both consoles to support Square but considering the weight and comfort of the Xbox controller (with chatpad) and the sharpness of these screens over the highly antialiased PS3 ones, I’ll probably play it on 360. Oh, and P.S., not that it needed them but you did label them by putting ALT tags on the images. ;)

Honestly, I don’t even see a graphical difference, but I haven’t broken out the full resolution images and magnifying glass. I’m still in the who-the-fuck-cares camp on this issue, but considering this game is all about story, I’d expect you to be more upset about the script than anything else. When are you gonna rant about the fact that the two versions, as seen in your comparison shots, don’t even share the same text?

Oh yeah, and SubjectNameHere is an idiot. You’re gonna buy both versions to ‘support the company’?! Why not just send them a check? Buy two copies of the preferred version and give one to a friend (hell, buy more… how ’bout a baker’s dozen)? Send them a picture of your girlfriend’s boobs? Anything would be less insulting than thinking you’re going to buy a disc you know you’ll never use.

Hey, Money is money, vote w/ your wallet… And if you want to see more Final Fantasy, then I say go ahead and buy 12 copies of the game(I wont be however). Apparently Square Enix realizes this too – according to Square Enix’s Vice President Shinji Hashimoto said that there will be no new Chrono Trigger releases(so far) because of inadequate sales from the DS re-release in 2008 he said, “If people want a sequel, they should buy more!”(March 2010 Game Informer)

Alon’s Got a point but I dont think your an idiot for supporting your passions, if your sole purpose is to support the company then a check to 2-13-7. Meguro Tokkyu Bldg. 4F Shinagawa-ku. Tokyo, 141-0021, In Care of : Give me more FF please Department, would probably be more efficient. By buying retail you support your local retailer, Distributers, Oil/shipping companies for logistics, Sony/Microsoft, ect, ect.

I like Final Fantasy, so please go buy more! OH an please go buy 1000 copies of Chrono Trigger for DS too please, I could go for another one of those too. ;)

Wow, Alon. Your reputation as a pretentious asshole precedes you. I didn’t literally mean I wanted to give Mr. Square my currency. I meant I’d like to add a +1 to domestic PS3 sales by giving Amazon my currency. I regularly buy extra copies of the same game so my friends can play.

If you must know, I do have copies of some games on both PS3 and 360 where it makes sense or where I have friends on both networks who prefer playing one over the other. About fifty of the Xbox 360 games I own haven’t been played or opened and probably will never get played unless Jorge borrows them, but I still want them in my collection because they’re worth owning. Hell, I even buy every decent PS3 exclusive and haven’t played a single one because I can’t stand the chintzy controller. So yes, I frequently buy discs I don’t use. I have over a hundred blu-rays I haven’t watched and may never get to because I hate watching movies alone. I have ten of the Street Fighter TE sticks because I like collecting the different versions.

To each his own I guess.

While I can tell the difference between the two screenshots, I am not sure how I am supposed to be certain which one is for which console.

Specifically, to Ben Heckendorn. For $750 you could get him to make you a PS3 controller you’ll actually like. Or, you could just leave your games on the shelf unopened, next to your ten fight sticks. Your choice.

corky842: Oh I’m quite familiar with Ben Heck. If that controller were, say, $100 and I didn’t have OCD about using first party controllers, I’d be all over it. It’s nice. I played Heavy Rain on a Dual Shock 3 with the chat pad on it and it felt better I guess. It just feels too light.

I don’t see what’s so confusing about being a collector. I have every US released Dreamcast game and peripheral along with a bunch of import stuff and a half dozen DC consoles. I liked the Dreamcast. I like the 360. I like Street Fighter and TE sticks. I have two PSP Gos I rarely if ever use. I just like collecting game stuff that I like.

I think the problem is, games are meant to be played. It doesn’t make sense to most of us to buy something just to own it. You’re turning something meant to be experienced into an object. It would be like buying a movie ticket and instead of using it to watch the movie in the theater, you keep it intact and unused, frame it, and put it on your wall.
If the weight and not Sony’s controllers being designed for tiny hands that’s the issue, crack that bad boy open and glue some lead weights in there or something.

I am somewhat confused as to why it is so difficult to understand that someone may want to collect something. I really don’t see anything wrong with collecting games or for that matter buying multiple copies of a game it the need for them exists. I know Eric personally and, although he DOES have a lot of games he doesn’t play, he DOES eventually get around to playing most of it. Most of it being, substantially more than most game players and, oddly enough, in less time. That being said, I have bought multiple copies of plenty of games but only a few times ones I didn’t open, but they were mostly for collecting and I never felt it was odd in the slightest. It extends to my action figure buying habits as well, as I will be multiples of a figure I really like, just so I can have one in my personal collection, and one at work. (If I really like the mold, or the character Etc.) As it stands I bought something like 15 + G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary Crimson Guards, and I don’t regret the purchase in the slightest, as they were my favorite figure from the set.

To each their own, he isn’t hurting anyone and it ALWAYS helps to have lots of arcade sticks, especially when they are as good as those TE sticks.
