Anybody who has an Xbox 360 and plays online with friends will understand how frustrating the 100 friends limit can be. Even if a person hasn’t hit their own limit, they have probably not been able to add somebody as a friend because that person had reached their limit. The only thing more frustrating than having to go through your own friends list and remove somebody you haven’t played games with recently is telling somebody else that they have to remove one of their friends in order to add you.
But the time is finally here, that limit will soon be raised to a higher number or possibly removed completely. The reason the friends list is capped at 100 is because of original Xbox titles, specifically Halo 2. The original games are basically coded in a way that requires a person have no more than 100 people on their friends list. Because of this, Microsoft has had to continue the 100 friend cap in order to keep Halo 2 and other original Xbox titles to be playable online.
Today, however, Microsoft has announced that they will be shutting off online play for Halo 2 and all other Xbox titles on April 15. Anybody who is whining about this can just shut the fuck up. Get an Xbox 360, play Halo 3 or Modern Warfare 2. Stop living in the past. Not letting you play Halo 2 online anymore is going to be more beneficial to more people.
The shut down of old Xbox LIVE games will allow for more flexibility in many other areas as well. It is possible they might have some sort of grouping system with different friends and other management features in the future, I don’t know. But what I can say with a 99% certainty is that we will soon be able to have more than 100 friends on Xbox LIVE.

Wow, I had heard Microsoft was going to stop supporting old Xbox Live games, but I had assumed they’d be keeping Halo 2 up.
….not that I really care/have Halo 2.
Couldn’t they update the title to not requre less than 100 friends? I mean, banning old XBOX titles is fine with me… but wouldn’t it be just as easy to do the other?
Old XBOX sucks anyway… that controller was the size of a human head.
