As is typical of the internet, Hakan, the tenth and final (?) character to be added to the cast of Super Street Fighter IV, was debuted a couple days earlier than expected. IGN’s Daily Fix posted the debut trailer earlier this evening and all I can say is wow. I don’t think that now is the best time to get into what I think about Capcom’s design philosophy for this title, but I am interested to see what you folks think.
Oddly enough, Seth Killian had mentioned that Hakan, a burly Turkish oil wrestler, was going to be pretty bizarre, and had what he thought was some of the craziest (read absurd) ultra moves in the game. Take a look at the footage yourself and have a gander at what Capcom feels represents Turkish oil wrestling down to the most minute detail…
The silliness is quite silly, but I have to admit that I am intrigued. Last, here is a match video of Hakan fighting Juri, another of the new characters, note the silly English voice overs.
So that is the last of the new characters for SSF4. Expect more footage and info on the character as we get closer to the April 27th release, including whatever super secret extra stuff owners of the original SF4 will be unlocking in SSF4.
He’s such a beautiful man… hopefully we can make some magic happen and swing an early copy!
Why don’t his beautiful daughters go sliding off of him like all of the Street Fighter characters do?
I don’t put a whole lot of stock into it but it seems there may be a character outline at the end of the trailer before the SSF4 logo appears. Probably just my imagination…
His daughters don’t slide off because they’re wearing their little rubber caps! Duh!
It could just be me, but it seems like Hakan is a really bizarre character for the sake of being bizarre. He seems altogether a bit too serious, but in a really silly way. Almost like they couldn’t decide how they wanted to portray him. Also, I realize that diversity in fighting styles is one of the many parts of what make the SF series great, but Turkish Oil Wrestling? Maybe Street Fighter needed more grapplers, but I think I’d honestly preferred Alex or maybe even Yun instead of some random niche fighting style.
Regardless, he makes an interesting new addition to the cast of characters in an already outstanding (in my opinion, the absolute best) fighting series. Looking forward to seeing how he matches up with some of the other characters.
Geoff: They seemed to know exactly what they wanted to portray. Let’s watch…

Yeah, Capcom was actually trying to create a silly/serious character something like Dhalsim/Blanka. In that respect they succeeded. I am all about Capcom searching for these different kinds of martial arts/ fighting systems. Also, there is nothing niche about it, entire countries practice the exact same or VERY similar sport. I lik ethe idea because it allows Capcom/Dimps to experiment with more diverse sub-systems for characters which typically makes the characters more memorable. I woul dhave to say that I wish he wasn’t so silly, but it also bleeds quite a bit of awesome. http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2010/03/10_hakanart.jpg
freaking look at him. 7 kids. And one has an action figure. Of her Dad. For all his silliness, Capcom can make him instantly endearing which is really neat.
I have to say I would love to see alex as well, but Alex was a very stoic character that I am honestly somewhat tired of seeing. Not that I am only about silly characters, I just want character. That, and Alex is the main character in the SF3 story line, so I can see it getting a bit weird in SF4.
And I have had my fill of yun for a little while. He was tops in III and was in CVS2. I can wait for a minute. Besides, Gen has to die some time before then.
why is there an exclamation point behind your name? Are people yelling at you? Are you a deaf? Are you bruping and saying your name at the same time? I need some goodamn answers and this gaodamned electronic website just wasted 1 hour of my free AOL time. Fuck you and your overly loud name sir.
