E3: Nintendo 3DS Impressions

E3: Nintendo 3DS Impressions

The biggest announcement at E3 2010 was the new Nintendo 3DS. While it was expected that Nintendo would be launching their newest handheld game console at the event, what the device would be capable of was met with much speculation.  Nintendo put all of that speculation to bed, however, by having over one hundred of the consoles on display as the crowning jewel of their E3 booth, Ii you can even call it a booth any more…  Moving along.  The lines to get on the stage to play th 3DS were long and winding throughout day.  Depending on what time of the day you got in the line, you could wait anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour to get twenty minutes with the new hardware and a variety of available software.

Legend of Zelda: A Taste of Skyward Sword at E3 2010

As many of you know from listening to our podcasts, I’m an avid fan of the Zelda franchise.  Though I’ve gotten a lot of crap from Cory and Dr. Whomiller over never having played “the best Zelda” (A Link to the Past), I still think I know a thing or two when it comes to the world of Hyrule; more specifically, what a good Zelda game should consist of.  Without further ado, here’s my recap of the Skyward Sword demo that I got to play at E3 this year.

POKECTU MONSTU BRACK AND RITE TRAIRU!!!! (Pokémon Black and White Trailer)

We all know that most of the Golgotron Crew are avid Pokémon fans.  Hell, everytime Molly opens her mouth she’s spewing out something about Pokémon or those stupid-ass Final Fantasy games.  Regardless, we were all aflutter, and by we I clearly mean me, when we got word that some live footage found its way to teh internetz.

EEDAR Charts, John Riccitiellos, and Bears! OH MY!

EEDAR Charts, John Riccitiellos, and Bears! OH MY!

At this year’s E3, NamelessTed and I had the honor of attending the Wedbush/EEDAR party, where we got to hobnob with analysts and the “big-swinging dicks” of the gaming industry.  We were definitely outclassed…  I mean seriously, Ted should never be in the same room as John Riccitiello, but I digress.  We had an incredible time bantering about industry trends and discussing which of the big three were going to pull it out this year.  I was going to do a big write-up of my overall thoughts on this year’s convention, but by this point it’s just not worth it; I’ve covered most of it on the last couple of podcasts.  I did, however, wake up this morning to an email from the fine people of EEDAR (Electronic Entertainment Design and Research) showcasing what you, the gamers, were excited for and decided to share.  There aren’t too many surprises here, though I did severely underestimate the appeal of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. People really like those games…  perhaps I should finally get around to playing them.  I am, however, NOT ONE BIT SURPRISED at the last of interest in Sony’s “Hail Mary” Twisted Metal.  Like I’ve stated on several shows, people want TM: Black 2!  FUCK UNIVERSAL APPEAL!  DON’T FORGET YOUR AUDIENCE OR WHO BUILT YOUR FRANCHISE!  *sigh* Charts after the jump…

No WiFi Support for OnLive… Seriously

I got to try out OnLive for about 15 minutes at E3 last week, and I have to say it didn’t suck.  The video resolution was a bit low but I was completely surprised when I switched from playing Batman: Arkham Asylum to Unreal Tournament 3 in about two seconds flat.  I was looking forward to getting some more hands-on time with the program from home, but those plans have been completely spoiled.  OnLive currently does not allow you to connect to the service if you are using a WiFi connection.  This seriously blew my mind.

OnLive explains why wireless isn’t allowed in the FAQs on their website; here is what they have to say: Continue reading…

E3 Booth Round Up: Nintendo

I spent the majority of Wednesday at E3 checking out the Nintendo booth.  They had all of their upcoming games and also plenty of third party games on display for both the Wii and the DS.  There weren’t very many surprises as far as the games that were coming out, but there were a couple of games that were surprisingly fun to play.
