Zynga Annoys People Outside of Facebook, Too!
It seemed like a good idea at the time, but the Zynga Game Network may be rethinking their decision to plaster the streets of San Francisco with promotional items after receiving threat of a lawsuit from city attorney Dennis Herrera. The guerrilla marketing campaign was meant to garner more interest (and offer the chance to win real cash totaling $25,000) toward the latest version of their popular Facebook title, Mafia Wars, by gluing dozens of fake $25,000 bills to the ground in five separate Hayes Valley locations.
City officials have stated that a steam cleaner needs to be brought in to remedy the situation, and with no staff to spare or the time to do so, they’re requesting that all “emails, work orders, scope of work, contracts, marketing plans or other records — that show when and where the graffiti in San Francisco was placed, and by whom,” be sent for further investigation.
Payment for the repairs won’t suffice as a solution either – the city is requesting that a “proposal to fully resolve the issue” be submitted. This is likely due to the fact that payment for reparation of the damage done would be pocket change to the company with a net worth in the billions. Feats like this aren’t new to Zynga either, as they recently pulled off a publicity stunt that involved blowing up an armored car in the Nevada desert (also to promote the latest version of Mafia Wars).
God forbid this has any effect on Zynga’s success – nobody would want to bring any harm to the company that has inflicted so much spam on the News Feed of many Facebook users.
