MGS: Snake Eater 3DS Trailer Makes Molly Happyface

This may be a bit of old news, but the trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater on the 3DS was released, and all I can say is “God, yes!”  If you’d like to experience the joy that I did in viewing this 7 ½ minute long masterpiece, be sure to check out the video after the jump!

I’m a big fan of the MGS franchise, with Snake Eater (that’s number 3 for you noobs who haven’t played it) being my favorite title in the series.  Big Boss is my favorite MGS character (right next to Otacon) because, well, he’s bad ass, and has a little more humanity and compassion than his clone/offspring and main protagonist of the series, Solid Snake.  While I found that the Cobra Unit (antagonist team) was a little weak and lacking in depth compared to FOXHOUND from MGS and Dead Cell from MGS 2, I thought the visuals and overall environment of the game more than made up for it (wandering aimlessly through a Russian jungle and having to kill and eat crocodiles to restore your health was a welcome change from navigating through a boring building with laser traps and electrified floors).  The final battle against The Boss in the flower field at the end of the game was one of my favorite boss fights of all time, the outcome of which pretty much made me sob like a little girl after finding out she wasn’t getting a pony for her birthday.  And don’t even get me started on Revolver Ocelot…  I could gush on forever.

When I heard this game was being remade specifically for the 3DS, I was a little skeptical.  I hadn’t seen what the new Nintendo system was capable of as far as graphical output went (the original was released near the end of the PS2’s run, therefore it was one of the best looking titles on the system), and to be honest I didn’t think the game needed another incarnation (Snake Eater was the original version, then Subsistence was released the following year with added content).  After seeing this trailer, however, I’m glad that Kojima decided to go ahead with pushing this title out on the 3DS, because frankly, it looks amazing.  I don’t much care for playing it in 3D; I only care about being able to tote one of my favorite games ever around with me at all times while simultaneously marveling at the beautiful  graphics this port will have.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is set to release at launch for the Nintendo 3DS, and Hideo Kojima announced a new MGS game to be released for the system sometime next year as well at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show.  You can bet that as soon as I get my hands on a 3DS, I’ll be playing the crap out of this game, along with the Ocarina of Time remake (can’t wait!).  Stick around for any updates on this game or the new MGS that’ll be coming out.
