New Xwerx Accessory Nobly Combats Gamer’s Claw

I’m a huge pussy and whenever shit goes down I tend to hold my controller in a death grip reminiscent of a mama eagle’s talons. It’s mentally comforting, but after so long my muscles cramp up and I have to take a juice break to avoid medical trauma.

Accessory designer Xwerx understands my pain. The company’s debut product, the XtendPlay controller attachment, will eliminate what Xwerx affectionately refers to as “Gamer’s claw.” Available for preorder now and expected to ship out mid-December, the XtendPlay hopes to improve the hand health of PS3 and Xbox 360 owners across the globe.

The attachment’s super-soft material relaxes the fingers while air vents keep palms cool and dry. The innovative shape relieves tension and allows players added comfort in any position. Xwerx throws around phrases like “biomechanics” and likens an Xtend-less competitive gamer to a baseball player without a baseball glove.

This thing looks like a big block of foam trying to absorb your controller into itself like a fluorescent version of Black Goo. The $19.99 price tag seems kind of steep for a plastic pillow, but the XtendPlay has been extensively tested to positive reviews, many of which can be read on the Xwerx website. For those who log hours upon hours of gameplay at a time, trying to land a spot on leader boards, no doubt the XtendPlay will make your life a little easier and your digits a little less tense.

But do casual gamers really need one? My guess is not.
