Nintendo “Project Cafe” Images Leaked!

Nintendo’s next generation Wii console — currently codenamed “Project Cafe” — could land later this year, and we’re told will DEFINITELY be playable at this year’s E3… sure. Regardless, the gaming worlds is all a flutter as new details and “possible” diagrams of the machine’s build for have leaked. One of NeoGaf‘s finest, has posted the following several images, which showcase some of the rumored features Nintendo‘s been hinting at. These include: controller displays, 1080p output with possible support for stereoscopic 3D, and will utilize AMD’s R700 GPU. Over at IGN, there’s a complete breakdown of all the known facts, and they’re already speculating at a $350.00 to $400.00 price tag. Before you start balking at the price eep in mind, Nintendo wants to win back the hardcore crowd, and to do that you need POWER (some pun intended). So is this a home console or a mobile gaming system? I will have to wait until the official announcement at E3 before I decide if this will be as stupid as the 3DS or not.

The fact that the entire system is completely based around 3D, is massively underpowered, and has fuck all battery life. There are other things to complain about but those are the three biggest.

Well I wouldn’t say it’s based entirely around 3D. I mean yeah that’s the gimmick but it still has online play and dual screens and touchscreen interaction. The cameras working with augmented reality games could have interesting applications. I don’t know what else someone would expect as a follow up to the most successful handheld ever. Beyond that, it’s supposedly got “near-Wii” power which isn’t bad for a handheld and is surely impressive for Nintendo. The battery life issue has been a non-issue for me. I get 8 hours or so with 3D off and close to 5 with it on. Your eyes will melt if you even try to play 5 hours straight with 3D on. nnEither way, I was just curious because I was highly skeptical until I played it for a while and now I’m completely sold on the 3D and graphical power of it. I can’t wait to see what developers do with all the new functionality.

I don’t know, it is just completely underwhelming for me. Sure it looks like “near Wii quality” but it really isn’t. The 3DS is rendering a much smaller resolution image so it can get similar fidelity with being less powerful. In comparison to other mobile devices that are available right now like tablets and phones, it just doesn’t match up. We already half dual-core devices clocked at 1GHz and higher and nVidia is launching their quad-core Tegra 3 this summer. At that point the 3DS is a piece of shit from a technical standpoint.nnAs far as all the other features with the augmented reality and touch screen and whatnot, it is all the same stuff that was already in the DS. The augmented reality is something that could definitely be done on the DS because I have seen it done on pretty much ever single Android phone in existence.nnI am not saying that the 3DS is necessarily bad, it is just more of a minor revision to the DS. There is no reason for it to exist as its own device. I also think Nintendo is extremely confused about what it wants the 3DS to be. They are clearly pushing 3D as a key feature but in the same breath will tell you that you can turn it off if you want. That is like Sony and Microsoft talking about how great HD looks and then ship their consoles with fucking composite cables (which they do).nnI could probably talk about the 3DS and what I have seen about the new Project Cafe forever, but I don’t want to completely waste everybody’s time.

This basically feels like the PSP-PS3 connectivity games like pixel junk shooter utalized. nnregardless I actually think this would be cool for an actual CAFE! Can you imagine playing Call of duty with next gen graphics on a hand held screen in a local coffee shop- shooting people across the room.nnThis could be the next generation of LAN parts- Streaming multilayer games. No need to hook up a ton of TV’s – Everyone’s already got one built into there controller
