Review – Tritton Detonator

Review – Tritton Detonator

I have never really used gaming headsets before other than with PC, so i decided to check out the Tritton Detonators. The headset is developed by Tritton and Mad Catz for Xbox 360 and comes with all the necessary attachments for HDMI or component. There is a wireless version or entry level wired retailing for $79.99. There is a bit of wire clutter but after a quick and easy hook up you just need to plug in the detachable mic and you’ll be ready for an amazing gaming experience.

Let me start by breaking down the physical aesthetics. The top head rail  has a comfort fit padding to rest on your head for long gaming sessions. The ear pieces have a swivel design which allows you to bend in three separate ways. This comes in handy when you want to put one ear piece to the side to hear the person next to you while leaving your other ear covered DJ style. The headset never feels uncomfortable and maneuvers easily. The ear pieces have a pleather covering which blocks a out a lot of sound and fit snuggly around the ears.

The head set comes with a pretty nice controller with a Selective Voice Monitoring button that allows you to hear your own voice. This not only lets you know how loud you are talking but you feel like you’re radioing for storm trooper back up. There is also volume adjustment for in game and chat volume as well as a button to cut off either one. Having experienced some high end head phones in the past, I can say that for this price range, you are getting very impressive sound quality. It tones down major noises like explosions or bomb drops and balances out dialogue with environmental sounds.

You aren’t getting a real quality surround sound effect but it does make the gaming experience more personal and highly preferable. While playing through Modern Warfare 3, I was able to hear the usual foot steps and vehicle movement but was surprised to hear bullets whizzing by and mosquitoes near my ear. I also tried the Detonators out on my iPod, and the sound quality really is amazing. Most headsets going for under $100 right now don’t really match up to these. I was really impressed with how clear music sounded and well it handled different games like Modern Warfare  and Assassins Creed. If you’re looking to stay under $100 i highly justify picking these for the holidays, they will no doubt enhance any game you pick up this year.

Sound Quality: 8/10
Maneuverability: 7/10
Portability: 7/10
Accessibility: 8/10
