New Metal Gear Game Leaves Us With A Question – WTF Is a Revengeance?

What exactly is a Revengeance? I know the definition of Vengeance:

venge·ance/?venj?ns/

Noun: Punishment inflicted or retribution exacted for an injury or wrong.

Let’s see how adding ‘Re’ in front of it changes the meaning.

When you put the letters ‘Re’ in front of a word, it is typically used to define a repeat of whatever the word implies. So, does that mean that a Revengeance is another act of retribution for a wrong done (like doubling up on the angst)? Isn’t that just a part of the original intended act of vengeance? As long as one is continuing to take action against someone who has done them harm, isn’t it all part of the same revenge plot? (I now realize the word ‘revenge’ does not quite follow the ‘re’ rule. The English language can be a little retarded). Unless, a wrong is done once again, and now vengeance is being taken for that new action, that would just make it another act of vengeance. No matter how it is defined it is a recurring pattern that the same word defines. There is no need for a new word! Crazy Japanese and their Engrish.

Another example of Engrish.

Now, that isn’t the only thing odd about this new game in the Metal Gear Franchise. For anyone who has seen the trailer or read about the game, I’m sure you are aware of the changes to the standard MGS gameplay in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (grrrr…), what is different you might ask? Well, let me answer that question with a question.

You remember that one time you played a Metal Gear Solid game and thought to yourself “man, this stealth stuff sucks, I wish I could just shoot a bunch of things in some ridiculous arcade style game?”

No? Yeah, me neither. Yet somehow Kojima and his crew have decided that it would be best to saddle up the audience with the new bad ass version of Raiden and send them off on a Ninja Gaiden style quest with a cyberpunk twist. If you haven’t seen the trailer, you are in luck, cause here it is:
