Catherine is apparently really, really HARD!

Japan is a crazy place. I’ve only spent a modicum of time there, and I would have stayed longer but the government isn’t exactly flexible on the time of your deportation, but in that time I picked up on a few things about the culture. These are a people of discipline, integrity, hentaicles, and who downright love the idea of overcoming difficult situations. This mentality often translates over unto their gaming ideals, which is why they love grinding and ridiculous learning curves. So, I have to say it came as a shock to me when I read that most Japanese gamers have been complaining about the difficulty of Atlus‘ action-puzzle-dating-sim-love-bubble-inducing Catherine.

Heeeeerrrrrreeee’s Jill!

Patience apparently isn’t a virtue to teh interwebs. The promised release date of  MvC 3‘s first batch of DLC characters apparently wasn’t soon enough for some, despite it being less of a month away. A group of talented, if not misguided, game-hackers have unlocked the incomplete on-disk code for Jill Valentine. The footage above shows what I can assume is at least a decent array of her combos and move list. However, much like the rest of the game, the “Jill-so-far” lacks the wackiness of her MvC2 counterpart.

Again, I think this is the one of the biggest downfalls of the game. Where the fuck is my horde of zombies? Or the dogs? OR THE CROWS? THE FUCKING CROWS! Sigh, I guess I’ll still hold out on the thought that they can’t screw up Shuma Gorath.

Nintendo 3DS is announced. Yay.

So yeah, Nintendo finally-officially announced pricing and a release date for their eye holocaust machine…eh, I mean the 3DS. Slated to drop on March 25th in the UK and March 27th in North America the Nintendo 3DS will retail at $249.99, which is right around where everyone expected. It will launch in two FAB-U-LOUS colors, Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black, and will ship with own charging cradle and 2GB SD Card.

With up to 30 titles being promised by June, I can’t wait to see the line of crying, sticky-fingered, shit-covered children that tantrum their way into getting one of these things. The numbers are just going to be stupid or something. Personally, I hope all those kids go blind and their parents sue Nintendo. Then all the lawsuits cause Nintendo to file bankruptcy, and after winning all that money all the parents are involved in a horrible car crash ala Twisted Metal-style. That’s the only way I feel I’m going to get justice for having to wake up so fucking early and write this shit. Goddammit, I need a new gig, Troll… out.

Goro and Jade join MK9!

Not to be out done by its comic-y rival (see below, probably directly below as its a slow morning for news), Mortal Kombat 9, aka “NEW MORTAL KOMBAT”, has also reveal two new characters to its ever-growing roster. According to the latest issue of Game Informer, MK 1 alumni Jade and Goro will be joining the blood bath of stale game play and a rigid fighting engine that we’ve all come to expect from the franchise.

I really don’t want to add to the pile of hate that MK than everyone already has, but come on! You can’t pump out a sequel of year then randomly call it a “Reboot”. Take a note from Capcom and take some time to develop your engine and make a decent game, because no amount of nostalgia and additional characters are going to save you now.

Haggar and Phoenix confirmed for MvC3!

Yeah, I know, everyone knew this was happening but it’s still freggin’ cool! Final Fight’s Haggar and Marvel’s Phoenix (still prefer her dark side) have officially been announced as playable characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. These new additions bring the roster count up to 34, and God and hopefully Seth Killian-willing there will be at least 2 more… I still need my Jin back.

With the game launching on February 15th, there’s not much longer that we’ll all have to wait but for right now, these videos should hold you over. Phoenix after the jump…

Catherine is a puzzle game!!!! Who, knew?

With the Japanese release creeping ever closer (Feb 17th), the mystery behind Atlus’ epic dating-nightmare-game has been revealed. The latest trailer for Catherine FINALLY shows off the game’s “Nightmare” mode which will take up the bulk of play. And perhaps even more surprising than the content of the game itself is the fact that it’s a BLOCK-PUSHING-ACTION-PLATFORMER-WTF-I-DID-NOT-SEE-THAT-COMING-GAME!

I’m still not entirely sure what’s going on, but there are pitch forks and demons chasing you and sheep men to aid you. All-in-all you can say that I’m even more pumped for this screwed up game. Also… there’s supposed to be a demo soon. :D

Marvel vs Capcom 3 Achievements Revealed!

The fine people over at xbox360achievements.com have managed to pull the full achievement list for Capcom’s upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The list gives insight into some of the game’s as-of-yet announced features such as: Mission mode, level-based ranking, and 8-player lobbies. All in all nothing too surprising, though  I’m still pleased as NamelessTed in a bowl of punch, and February can’t get here quick enough.
