Gaming, Porn, & Synergy: Playboy does Bayonetta (poorly) Alon's Blog, Featured | (3)
Just as American Idol attracts a subset of "singers" who have no business performing in public, Playboy is inundated with audition photos from women who simply shouldn't be seen in public. Those are the girls Playboy puts in gaming shoots. But there's a more important question to be asked. Push yourself past the apparent fact that the girls used for Playboy's Bayonetta lookalike contest are straight out of the trailer park (I know it's hard, but try). Instead, ask yourself this: Did Sega pay to have this content produced as a means of disguised advertising, or is this collaboration between Sega ...

Porn & Pong: Mass Effect was a step in the right direction. Alexander's Blog, Featured | (0)
A month ago, when I was at PAX, I picked up a fun little book entitled Porn & Pong: How Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider and Other Sexy Games Changed Our Culture By Damon Brown. As the title suggests, it was about how the game industry intertwines with the Larry Flint and Hugh Hefner's naked utopia. The book talks about the significance of titles like Custer's Revenge, Tomb Raider, and Grand Theft Auto 3. Brown does a great job covering what was in the game, where the controversy lies, and what it meant for both the video game and ...

Batman=DDR: Quick Time Events done Right. Alexander's Blog, Featured | (2)
Gameinformer.com went live several days ago, and with it came a feature about tidbits in Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Asylum. The short feature talked about some of the smaller details about the game that are largely overlooked; like where the sound effect for the explosive gel came from. Out of all of these, one tidbit caught my eye. "Combat went through three distinct revisions – the first one being a full rhythm action game! The second one was prototyped in 2D, which popped up whenever you got into a fight, and involved colored circles bashing into each other. This actually formed the ...

What exactly is the PSP Go? Alexander's Blog, Featured | (0)
While reading reviews over this bizarre half-step upgrade of a handheld, I kept trying to figure what exactly the PSP Go is about. I also had to figure out what the PSP was, and why it failed in ways the Go will succeed. Later on, it hit me what Sony is thinking, and why nobody else has really mentioned it. The PSP Go is an iPod. Continue Reading...

Is Street Fighter IV Super? Alexander's Blog, Featured | (4)
Street Fighter IV has been available to the public sense spring 2009, and I feel myself concerned about the recent announcement about Super Street Fighter IV—an updated version of the game with a rebalanced roster and eight new characters. I love the idea of a rebalance, but Capcom has not only stated that it will be a stand-alone game, but also that the roster update will be so drastic it will not be playable with current Street Fighter IV discs. This leads to some slight turbulence though, what happens to players with old copies of the game? Are we supposed ...

Keiji Inafune is a name every gamer from the NES generation should know. He is the mind behind the Mega-Man series, as well as many other amazing titles sense then. In the video below during TGS, Inafune talks about how the Japanese game industry is dead. More after the jump. I'm giving you the link because I couldn't get embedding the video to work. Images Fixed! Blogs, Josh's Blog | (0)
So I disabled all of my plugins until I found the culprit, podpress! On one hand images now work correctly, on the other I have to search for another podcasting plugin. And podpress was so perfect, oh well.

    Wordpress. Fight! Blogs, Josh's Blog | (1)
So Wordpress magically started not working correctly with images. When you upload an image to Wordpress it resizes it to three different sizes and let's you pick which one you want. For some reason it is realizing it's doing that anymore. By realize I mean it's resizing them, it just doesn't list them as options. The problem with this is that things use this: wp_get_attachment_thumb_url That should return the url of the smallest image, the thumbnail. If there isn't a thumbnail it should return 'false', instead it's returning the url of the original image size. So ...

    Stupid iTunes Blogs, Josh's Blog | (0)
I for one think iTunes is a big piece of shit. The 64bit version runs alright, but the 32bit version is a piece of crap. Their whole navigation scheme is wonky, and the UI is absolute crap. Apple is a company with great designers but horrible UI guys, I really don't understand how they think a consumer will use a product. I'll also lay some blame on the architect of iTunes, whoever that cocksucker may be. So I'm updating the podcast, and iTunes (on their server side) is randomly breaking. The feed is valid, I made ...
