Last night’s episode of The Colbert Report featured a little piece about the new Microsoft Project Natal. Obviously, I am not excited for the new device and don’t like what it represents at all. Where other show hosts like Jimmy Fallon have decided that Natal is the coolest thing they have ever done, Colbert decides to mock the device and pretty much says exactly how I feel about the device. Check out the video:

I almost forgot. It is E3 and right now Steve Wiebe is trying to get the world record at Donkey Kong once more. Go watch it. Its going to take him a long time but its going to be exciting, he is so fucking good at it.

[updated 1]

Steve was at about 175,000 points and the power seems to have cut out. If this was going to happen at least it happened early. It sounds like they are working on fixing the issue right now and hopefully they will be able to get it back up and running shortly and let Steve start over and try again.

[update 2]

The machine is back up and running so you can view it live again. As of right now he is only at 40,000 points and the sounds isn’t working for me. Hopefully there won’t be any more power outages and sounds should come back on soon.

[update 3]

Steve is at about 280,000 points right now. He hasn’t lost a life yet and sounds still doesn’t work from the stream. He is pretty much kicking ass though.

[update 4]

Steve is at 960,000 points right now, he is getting fucking close. He has died twice and its gettin all crazy sauce.

[update 5]

It is over. Steve hit the kill screen but didn’t get the record, he came close though. His final score was 989,400.

It has been a pretty popular rumor for quite a while that Microsoft was going to be announcing a new camera based motion controller at E3 and it is finally here, Project Natal. Before I say anything else you first need to watch the intro video that Microsoft played to get an idea at what Nintendo is trying to accomplish with Natal. Also not the disclaimer at the beginning of the video that says, “Product vision: actual features and functionality may vary.”

So there you have it, Project Natal, ugh. What the fuck is Microsoft thinking? I know that the Wii is extremely profitable right now and Microsoft is just trying to 1 UP them but this hardly seems like the right way to go. You all watched that video right? All of those people looked like a bunch of fucking tools. Why the fuck would a person ever want to pretend to hold a power drill and change a tire of a race car?

Microsoft started their press conference with some great content aside from Tony Hawk RIDE. They showed a handful of games like Modern Warfare 2, Crackdown 2, Shadow Complex, Forza 3, Splinter Cell Conviction, and Halo 3: ODST. All of these games look like they are going to be great and, guess what they have in common? They all require a traditional controller. There is no way a game like Halo 3: ODST could be controlled with a camera

Microsoft and other companies seem to have this idea that when you take what we consider to be a traditional controller away and replace it with body motion or a motion sensitive controller that enables the player to have more control they are actually doing to opposite. I have an idea, instead of using steering wheels, let’s install a camera into cars that just looks at what are hands are doing to determine which way to turn and when to change gears, it would be a disaster.

Here is what it comes down to, this sort of camera control will never be a mainstream control method that will be used in the most popular games, it just won’t happen. Natal is neat in regards to technology and what it is able to do, but it isn’t practical in real use. I don’t want to wave my fucking hands around in the air to scroll through some fucking movies, using a controller is BETTER and EASIER, it just isn’t as neato burrito.

Bottom line, fuck.

Seriously, why do you do this to me Molyneux. Overall I really enjoyed Fable 2 and had a lot of fun playing the game but the achievements frustrate me to no end and I want my fucking dog back. I play through the whole game as a good character, and then I choose “The Sacrifice” option to continue on my quest to be good but I lose my dog forever.

At the time losing my dog didn’t seem like it would have been the worst thing, I thought maybe I could get a new dog or that it didn’t matter much. But, then I realized that I couldn’t complete the Archaeologist quest since I no longer had my dog with me to sniff out the dig spot. I mean, sure I could just start digging fucking everywhere randomly but that would take way too much time to do.

But wait, there is a way to get your dog back. You have to buy the Knothole Island DLC pack and you have the option to sacrifice an innocent bystander to revived your dog. That sounds all good and dandy but I don’t want to buy the fucking DLC. I shouldn’t have to pay an additional $10 to get my dog back to finish the quests of the standard game. I certainly don’t want to start the game back all the way from the beginning again, fuck that noise. And I also don’t have the option to just restart from an earlier savepoint like every other RPG in existence. I want my dog, I want to finish the quests, and I don’t want to have to restart or pay more money.

Also, the achievements seems to be created in a way that you almost have to play the game multiple times. When it came time for the decision at the Spire i ended up restarting my game right away after it gave me the achievement so i could then go back again and choose a different option to get that achievement. But there are other parts of the game that just seems the achievements are created in a way that requires you to play the game through twice because some of them are based upon a split decision. Once you choose to Good Quest A then you can’t do Evil Quest B when completing either quest gives an achievement so you have to play the game twice to get both, fuck that.

Basically, I am just a whiny bitch and enjoyed Fable 2 but is extremely annoyed by the little things in the game which make me like it a lot less. Ugh, why can’t a developer figure out how to not make fun games annoying?
