NBA 2K12 Is My First Sports Pre-Order In A Decade

NBA 2K12 Is My First Sports Pre-Order In A Decade

The last time I pre-ordered, lined up, or just plain old impulse bought a sports game on launch day was NFL 2k1 back in 2000. Last year I saw the hype for NBA 2k11 and after a few minutes with the game, realized that while my beloved NFL 2k series may have died off long ago, Visual Concepts is still cranking away on making the best baskethoops games in the world.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Is Not Taking You For A Ride

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Is Not Taking You For A Ride

It seems these days that forums are full of youngsters with a false sense of entitlement. Many are saying Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is overpriced, under delivers, and is a straight rip-off. I figure it’s time to sit down and look at the numbers and rationale behind the upcoming Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and put some of these complaints to rest.

Fire in the Hole: Multiplatform Counter-Strike in 2012

Fire in the Hole: Multiplatform Counter-Strike in 2012

Today, Valve confirmed rumors that there is a new Counter-Strike title coming in early 2012.  Valve is developing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive along with Hidden Path Entertainment, the team behind Counter-Strike: Source.  The game is planned for PS3, Xbox 360 and Steam (both PC and Mac).

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will feature brand new maps, weapons and game modes.  Valve also claimed there would be updated content from earlier versions of the game.  There haven’t been any screenshots released yet, but judging from Valve’s language in the press release, CS:GO is sounding like a major update to Source instead of a full sequel.

Philistines on the Internet are already making claims of “Oh great, more de_dust?” and “Are they just going to update de_dust again?” To those people, I say: “If Valve graces us with the ability to play a prettier version of de_dust for another decade, you will take it and you will shut your mouth.”

Stick together team.

Review – Mad Catz Arcade FightStick Carrier

Review – Mad Catz Arcade FightStick Carrier

I’ll preface this by confessing I’m a pretty big fan of the Mad Catz FightSticks. I have over 20 Tournament Edition sticks, a few SE sticks, and even a dozen or so FightStick keychains. In the past, I’ve always made sure to have a small cache of quality arcade sticks for each console that’s come out since the days of SNES Street Fighter. One thing that has always been a challenge is transporting these heavy, awkwardly shaped beasts to tournaments or even a friend’s house without them getting knocked around or scuffed up in the trunk. Mad Catz aims to cure your woes with the new Arcade FightStick Carrier.

Dead Island the Game the Book

Dead Island the Game the Book

I’ve always been a fan of cross media entertainment just to see what might have been lost in the exchange. Finding and reading novels that have been turned into movies used to be a big past time of mine. Hell, I used to even read the Magic: the Gathering novels, no matter how god awful they were. Once I even tracked down Parasite Eve’s original novel just to figure out what the hell was going on there. So today’s news is a bit exciting for me.

Boomshakalaka! NBA Jam: On Fire Edition

Boomshakalaka! NBA Jam: On Fire Edition

Always one of my favorite games from back in the day, NBA Jam holds some fond memories for me. The recent installments have never quite captured that same charm, though. I always felt like something was a bit off. NBA Jam: On Fire on the other hand looks quite… hot.

Design Your Own Shield in Dark Souls

Design Your Own Shield in Dark Souls

Dark Souls, the “for all intents and purposes” sequel to Demon’s Souls, is coming in October to both Xbox 360 and PS3. The developers are promising it will be bigger, badder and better than its predecessor.  To promote the upcoming game, Namco Bandai are running a contest for the crafty among us. The challenge?  Create your own personal in-game shield.  The winners will get to see their design featured in the final game.
