PSA: Escalation Map Pack for Black Ops Available May 3rd

Today, Major Nelson officially confirmed the next Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack. This second piece of DLC is called “Escalation” and features 5 new maps: Convoy, Zoo, Stockpile, Hotel, and another zombie map!

The DLC drops on May 3rd for Xbox 360. As usual, PS3 and PC will get the content a bit later. While we don’t have further details, it’s pretty safe to assume that Escalation will be priced similarly to all the other recent Call of Duty DLC.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Review

Call of Duty: Black Ops Review

It’s times like these when I thank science that I have working eyeballs, ears, and opposable thumbs. Call of Duty: Black Ops is impressive. Not from a graphics standpoint or even a game-changing standpoint, but it is impressive, nonetheless. Developer Treyarch has managed to breathe new life into a franchise I worried was fading. The advancements throughout Call of Duty 2-4 and Modern Warfare 1 and 2 have been significant technically indeed, but nothing about each series’ subsequent titles warranted any more changes than what could be handled by simply turning it into downloadable content. They certainly didn’t blow our minds like the switch-up between GTA II and GTA III (which, by the way, shaped my pre-teen mind into the hunk of black and dirty coal that it is today).

Call of Duty: Black Ops Hit Stores Yesterday

Call of Duty: Black Ops Hit Stores Yesterday

Oh my God. It seems like years have passed since I heard the very first rumors of Call of Duty: Black Ops. I believe I was playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, in fact. Aside from new game features, developer Treyarch has upgraded or boosted some old ones. What had me yelling “No shit!” at my computer screen was the news of interactive environments during online play. In past CoD games, players had to rely on already open doorways or windows to get around maps, but now there are doors that can be opened and closed, allowing access to secret pathways or simply providing a place to hide when an enemy is hot on your heels. Certain killstreak rewards will also leave permanent damage to the map. For instance, missile strikes will leave a wake of charred ground.

Call of Duty: Black Ops to Feature Nazi Zombies; In Related News, Local Writer Cries Rainbows of Happiness

Call of Duty: Black Ops to Feature Nazi Zombies; In Related News, Local Writer Cries Rainbows of Happiness

Follow me down my shame spiral, won’t you? I’m a little obsessed with the Call of Duty series and anything war-related. I’m also quite taken with zombies. Put those things together, and you have the happiest nerd on the planet. So when game developer Treyarch recently unveiled a zombie co-op mode in forthcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops, I literally squealed. Several times. Along with fan-favorite zombies, players can expect four updated co-op maps from World at War as part of the Black Ops Prestige and Hardened Editions, as well as the premium edition Steelbook Case. If that doesn’t tickle your pickle, how about the thought of the all-new wager match in multi-player mode, where players can bet in-game currency that they will finish in the top three? This currency is used to purchase items for your character that you can customize with face-paint, gun camos, and weapon add-ons.
