Review – Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition

Review – Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition

Part of the reason I was so excited to get the 3DS was because it meant I could play Street Fighter IV. When it initially came out a few years ago, I completely missed the boat. It wasn’t until recently that I caught up on what I’d been missing – and boy was I missing a lot. Before I got the 3DS, I prepped up my Street Fighter expectations by playing the console version. Hadou-can this game live up to my expectations?

Review – Okamiden

Review – Okamiden

Meanwhile back at Golgotron headquarters…while the rest of the Golgotron crew was busy playing Pokemon White and Black, I snuck away to play a different type of game. I picked Capcom‘s adventure game Okamiden for the Nintendo DS. Okamiden is a true sequel to Okami from the Sony Playstation 2 and Nintendo Wii. The story picks up nine months after the end of Okami and takes place in the same environment. The original heroes Amaterasu and Susano have moved on and their roles in this adventure have been replaced by their sons Chibiturasu and Kuni. The similarities are many but is Okamiden different enough from the original to warrant a purchase?

From the Desk of Aaron: Dear Capcom

From the Desk of Aaron: Dear Capcom

Dear Capcom,

The reason for this letter is to tell you how much I hearts you. We have spent so many hours together and I wanted to take some time to look back on the fond memories that we have shared together. I can still remember when we first met. The year was 1989 and I had just opened up my Nintendo Entertainment System. Super Mario Bros was getting kind of old so I went down to the local video store and rented Mega Man. It was love at first sight. Even though you made Mega Man nearly impossible to complete (and I still haven’t to this day), I loved the challenge and variety of levels that you gave to me. Of course soon after you gave me the first Mega Man game, I discovered that you had actually already released Mega Man II and a third installment was on the way. I remember talking with my friends about how if we had Mega Man I, II, and III here, you must have just launched Mega Man XIII in Japan. Oh, those were the days…

GolgoCast S02E13 – Pokemon! Cock Fighting for the New Millenium

GolgoCast S02E13 – Pokemon! Cock Fighting for the New Millenium

OMG I’M GOING TO KILL OUR STAFF THEN I’M GOING TO LEARN NECROMANCY, RAISE THEIR CORPSES, AND TEACH THEM TO DISABLE CHAT SOUNDS IN SKYPE! Aside from that, the podcast is, as always, magical. On this week’s episode we discuss our initial impressions of Pokemon, marveling at its similarities with cock fighting! We also discuss Mortal Kombat 9, Playstation 3 firmware updates, more MvC3, and strange happenings in Minnesota! Also, I mistakenly called this episode 14, when it is in fact 13! For now, I’m heading back to the Midnight Channel!

MvC3 or TvC2?

MvC3 or TvC2?

After ten years of solid support and tournament play of Marvel vs Capcom 2, Capcom officially took notice and rewarded fans with what they call “a huge evolution in Versus gameplay”. Marvel vs Capcom 3 is definitely a fun game, but to me it feels more like they made Tatsunoko vs Capcom 2 and passed it off as the game we’ve been waiting to see for the better part of a decade.

Review – Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Review – Marvel vs. Capcom 3

I was never an arcade rat. I played consoles. I didn’t cut my teeth in the trial by humiliation setting of a GameWorks or the various mall food courts across America. I’m sure Dr. Garcia and Lord Hawkins can recount with scary accuracy those epiphanal moments of “footsie” clarity earned through countless quarters and callused fingers at the threshold of a wooden box. They, like many other ,  later would  find sanctuary amongst each other at forums like Shoryuken.com to hone their craft with a feudal Japan level of discipline. They may take a lot of flack for being one-trick ponies of sorts but you can’t really argue that how impressive that is. Now, I’m sure there’s an asshole or two that might think they’d like to give it a try, claiming that there’s no real art to it and on any given day a button-masher can take down a champ. To that I’d like to invite you to investigate “Option-selects“… afterward, promptly fuck yourself.

Haggar and Phoenix confirmed for MvC3!

Yeah, I know, everyone knew this was happening but it’s still freggin’ cool! Final Fight’s Haggar and Marvel’s Phoenix (still prefer her dark side) have officially been announced as playable characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. These new additions bring the roster count up to 34, and God and hopefully Seth Killian-willing there will be at least 2 more… I still need my Jin back.

With the game launching on February 15th, there’s not much longer that we’ll all have to wait but for right now, these videos should hold you over. Phoenix after the jump…
