Review – Dance Central

The latest in a long line of rhythm games from Harmonix, Dance Central sets out to prove that the Kinect is more than just a gimmicky trick for your money dollars. Does it have the right moves or should you evacuate the dance floor?

New DLC Available for Dance Central

New DLC Available for Dance Central

Harmonix promised they would release downloadable content for Kinect‘s bestselling game Dance Central soon after its release, and they have followed through. Available as of yesterday, players can go to the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and download new tunes. Here is the full list:

  • The Black Eyed Peas – “I Gotta Feeling”
  • Cameo – “Word Up!”
  • Tag Team – “Whoomp! (There It Is)”
  • Lady Sovereign – “I Got You Dancing”
  • Ne-Yo – “Because of You”
  • Sean Paul – “Temperature”

For a mere 240 Microsoft Points per song, players can jam out to a few awesome songs and one horrible song by the worst band in the entire world (burn for eternity, Black Eyed Peas). You know what? Actually, all of these songs suck. We had to wait for DLC to come out for this game and they’re making us pay per song for some of the worst crap to invade our eardrums. You blew it big time, Harmonix.

Harmonix’s Last Gig With Viacom

Harmonix’s Last Gig With Viacom

Media czar Viacom is indeed selling Harmonix, but before you hang up the plastic axe and retire your sweatband, homeboys, you should know that the Rock Band and Dance Central developer has no plans to abandon its favorite franchises.

Quite the opposite in fact. Reps from both Viacom and Harmonix claim the company is negotiating with “several potential buyers” and will continue work on future Rock Band and Dance Central titles.

This split seems amicable enough. Whatever heavy hitter snaps up these goods doesn’t matter to me as long as Harmonix keeps pumping out the multiplayer dream games that save my friends from my obsession with N64 Mario Parties. Viacom does own a metric shit-ton of what some would refer to as “music” networks, but Harmonix should be able to function just fine without them.

Full Tracklist for Dance Central Revealed

Full Tracklist for Dance Central Revealed

In a joint effort to titillate gay men and drunken sorority girls alike, game developers Harmonix, MTV Games, and Microsoft recently announced the full tracklist for their upcoming Kinect-exclusive game Dance Central (quick note: I’m doing my best to avoid any “dancing for joy” puns in this article). Using a free-range of motion, players will be able to dance along with their favorite songs in beginner to expert modes without the use of controllers (oh, how I hate holding the Wii Remote when I have a deep-seated urge to point my fingers everywhere like John Travolta a la Saturday Night Fever). Plus, the wide variety of music genres and artists should be enough to keep players entertained for hours. Here’s a quick vid of how it all works:
