World of Warcraft Surges in Popularity Worldwide, Surprises No One
Since its release in 2004, World of Warcraft has consistently been one of the top-selling MMORPGs based on subscriptions. In the few instances when it wasn’t number one in a year, it finished in second to one of its own expansion packs. In 2006, WoW had 7 million subscribers. As of this year, it has 12 million subscribers culled from various countries such as North America, Europe, mainland China, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, plus a few South American countries, as well as those in Southeast Asia. With the highly anticipated release of its third expansion, Cataclysm, WoW’s popularity is only expected to rise steadily.
