I can’t help but feel partially responsible for this-here dark day in which the proverbial internet heroes, LulzSec, have chosen to hang up their gray hats. As you’ll undoubtedly hear tomorrow on this week’s GolgoCast, I spearhead the thought that perhaps its time for the hackers to give up. That may hap, the “lulz” were gone. Now today, word rises that the slayers of such heavy-weights as Nintendo, Sony Pictures, and The Escapist, to name a few, have decided to end their 50 day run of terror. In a statement posted on infamous torrent site The Pirate Bay, the group states that it had always planned to bring an end to its attacks after 50 days, however one might venture to say this decision was influenced by recent crackdowns and arrests.
While I agree that it was a good time for them to cash in their chips, as we were getting dangerously close to an XBL hack which may have had their supporters rising against them, it will still be sad to see them go. Their antics kept the press world a-flutter, the big corporations on their toes, and made the past few months on the internet an “interesting time.” I for one wish you strapping gents the best of luck in all future endeavors, and I bid you to have a “Cool Summer”… Don’t change.
