Pokemon: Shades of Gray Version (An Exercise In Critical Thinking)

Pokémon. Many a video gamer has grown up on the series, whether the first Red and Blue games on the Game Boy back when Nintendo was king, or the contemporary fourth and fifth generation on the DS. And with the series still going, people will perhaps continue to do so into the future. Still, the classic Pokémon has a special place in our hearts.

Maybe that’s why we don’t think about the world of Pokémon that hard. It has a light-hearted atmosphere, an innocent charm that deflects concentrated attention from the fine details and encourages us to simply have fun playing through the games.

Let’s push aside the nostalgia and give it some scrutiny, shall we?

Pokemon Black and White drops March 6th!

In news to surely make Molly (aka Mollbuffet) shit herself, this morning Nintendo announced that every fan boy’s continual quest to “catch them all” will continue this Spring. Pokemon Black and Pokemon White are now slated to land on US shores on March 6th, 2011. This new version promises hours of aimless wandering, insane tedium of random battles every ten feet, and yadda yadda yadda… ten billion new Pokemanz… whatever.

The White version will house legendary Pokemon Zekrom, while Black will get Reshiram. Nintendo has also decided to change things up this time around, now giving their fans more of a legitimate reasons to buy two copies of this game. Each game will now include different areas and Gym Battles, so no longer will you be forced to play the same game twice while simply praying you’ll see something different.  Oh, and seasons change now too… huzzah?

Pick Up Pokémon Rangers: Guardian Signs and Be a Real Pokémon Master!

I’m not sure how these games keep getting made, to be honest.  But apparently they’re popular, because the Pokémon Ranger series will be releasing their third installment this fall, called Guardian Signs, for the Nintendo DS.  As I describe to you, the reader, the details of this upcoming game, I’m going to attempt to use the word “Pokémon” and its derivatives as much as I possibly can.
