The gameplay trailer for Capcom‘s portable 3D version of their popular fighting game, Super Street Fighter 4, was just released today, and to be honest, I have no idea what’s going on in it. As far as actual gameplay goes, it looks very similar, if not exactly the same, to the port’s older brother that was released for the Xbox 360 and PS3. So in this trailer, a silhouetted man (who makes me want to watch more Mad Men) walks with a bag slung over his shoulder, and in this bag you can see his 3DS having a mind of its own and blinking and probably sending out Wi-Fi signals, trying to pick up on other 3DS systems that may be close by (Nintendo 3DS be actin’ like a cheap slut). As he passes by a young kid, the 3DS systems seem to link up and they play on their own (one step closer to SkyNet becoming a reality here, people), and one 3DS declares itself the winner. Confused yet? Yeah, me too.

From what I can gather off of this Japanese trailer is that the overall gameplay that we all know and love in SSF4 stays relatively untouched from its console-based predecessor, and that mini games centered around Wi-Fi hookups with other people are the gimmick of owning this title on a portable system (two gimmicks, actually, the other being that the game is in 3D, which I don’t think is really necessary at all). It seems also that the Fight Request feature that’s in the console version is also implemented in the port, where you can run through Arcade Mode and get a request from a player via Wi-Fi to have a match (once the match is completed, you resume where you left off in Arcade Mode).

To be honest, I’d be more excited for this game if I lived in a heavily-populated city where everyone owned a 3DS and this game… like, say, oh I don’t know, JAPAN. I think there are some pretty neat things they could do with porting this super popular title to a high-powered handheld system, but they need to be done right, and the 3DS (along with SSF4 3D) need to sell like some pretty awesome hot cakes everywhere (not just Asia) to make the project a true success. Now that I’m done ranting, I’ll let you watch the trailer. Let me know if you were just as baffled as I.

All 35 current console characters will be featured in the 3DS version of Super Street Fighter 4, and it remains to be seen if the newly announced arcade characters from 3rd Strike, Yun and Yang, will make an appearance here as well.

We got the mega exclusive with this one. A source on the inside has leaked 5 brand new Super Street Fighter IV DLC characters. Currently there is no known release date for these guys, but something tells me we will be seeing them sooner rather than later…

RufussTed – One of the most annoying characters in the game. His moves mainly consist of kicks to the groin. If you win a round against this character, RufussTed will argue with your gaming system until it gives up and either red rings or gives him the win.

Sakory – Harnessing all the rage and zeal of a 10 year-old Japanese girl born as a 26-year-old American man, Sakory is not a character to be taken lightly. Sakory’s super combo is actually a faux-hawk power-up. I use the term power-up loosely because it has the same effect as Guile’s aviators.

Jorge Li – This one just looked funny to me.

Sery – This character has every other character’s moves in the game, but only one input command. When the command is input, a random move from a random character is thrown.

Belanka – Greatest character of all time next to Jeffrey Lebowski. This character has some of the best moves in the game including one called “elbow deep”. His super combo summons a goat named Gus to attack his opponent, knocking them down, and robbing them of their dignity.

As is typical of the internet, Hakan, the tenth and final (?) character to be added to the cast of Super Street Fighter IV, was debuted a couple days earlier than expected. IGN’s Daily Fix posted the debut trailer earlier this evening and all I can say is wow. I don’t think that now is the best time to get into what I think about Capcom’s design philosophy for this title, but I am interested to see what you folks think.

Oddly enough, Seth Killian had mentioned that Hakan, a burly Turkish oil wrestler, was going to be pretty bizarre, and had what he thought was some of the craziest (read absurd) ultra moves in the game. Take a look at the footage yourself and have a gander at what Capcom feels represents Turkish oil wrestling down to the most minute detail…

The silliness is quite silly, but I have to admit that I am intrigued. Last, here is a match video of Hakan fighting Juri, another of the new characters, note the silly English voice overs.

So that is the last of the new characters for SSF4. Expect more footage and info on the character as we get closer to the April 27th release, including whatever super secret extra stuff owners of the original SF4 will be unlocking in SSF4.

Over the past week Capcom has been kicking the Super Street Fighter IV final push into gear. Various news outlets have been receiving packages from Capcom with mysteriously cryptic messages like this nifty blue Everlast glove clenching a rose.

Capcom ought to start sending ME stuff...Jerks.

Apparently both Señor Jeff Gerstmann (GiantBomb) and Brian Cresente (Kotaku) received said packages and both were immediately converted into affluent British pugilism aficionados.

Cresente before the glory of Dudley...

Hurray for Pugilism!

Elsewhere, EventHubs has updated with both last weeks Nakky (Shiozawa) Blog SFIV translation (it was a long one) and this weeks update. They have a lot of information extracted via stupid questions from random fans. Of course, Nakky was unable to answer all the questions, especially when it had anything to do with characters or new aspects of the game not yet revealed, there was a lot of info about some of the various modes, fixes to the overall flow of menus, matchmaking and the occasional comment on balance/ character tweaking details. An interesting read if you are at all curious about some of the background info of characters and development stories/ practices that the team are using Etc. A warning though, some of the questions are flat out pointless.

Here’s a run down of some of the stuff covered, head over to view the whole interview if you want to see Nakky’s actual responses.

• SSFIV is sold separate from SFIV because they’ve in essence built it from the ground up, so its too much to be handled as additional content.

• More hinting at Ibuki.

• No special conditions to get to the bonus stages.

• The developers and producers (Ono included) read the comments on the blogs.

• No “Making of” video, but that’s what the Dev Blog is for.

• No plans for any SF1 character, but who would you want to see?

• Would be cool to one day have the characters actually speaking their respective languages (ie Russian for Gief, Chinese for Chun).

• Someone asks for a flight suit alt for Guile, and she points out a picture showing Guile throwing a sonic boom while wearing sunglasses – is this a new item, or a new move?

• SSFIV will run at 720p just like SFIV.

• She says you’ll be able to use the new characters from the beginning (no unlocking?)

• Someone asks to be able to pick the regular stages in the training mode, and she says its something to think about for next time (implying its not a feature this time around).

• Someone asks for Vega’s stage with the chain link fence. She says that it’s a popular request, and if they add any more stages its sure to be at the top of the list.

• New Mad Catz stick being developed for SSFIV. She’ll share more info when she has it.

• She says they’re working hard enough to make the dream of arcade SSFIV a reality. Believe in them and please wait.

• Many people wanted to see a Mama Viper costume, but Nakky says if Viper is in mom-mode she’s probably not going to fight.

• Someone points out the way BP is handled is weird, with minimal gains and big losses. She doesn’t really address this issue.

• No comments in the Replay Channel.

• Some complaining about the new costumes, in which she refers to the last dev blog.

• Someone asked if Ultra II can only be used when the gauge is maxxed out – she replies that it can be used the same as Ultra I.

• Someone asks for Evil Ryu. She doesn’t answer the question.

• Someone asks about a BP penalty for ragequitters. She says the penalty is the disconnect ratio that’s displayed.

• She says that the search function has been improved from SFIV – before, it gave you someone close to the specified parameters, now it will only give you what you asked for.

• No special mode for just viewing character models.

• Someone asks if the devs really listen to the comments. She says they do – they don’t depend on them, but as they want the players to enjoy, they do at least listen.

• Confirms 2 alt costumes for the new SSFIV characters and 3 total for the returning SFIV cast.

• Someone asks if there will be a time limit for picking ultras. She says that you pick the ultra at the same time you pick your character, so there’s no time limit. I will assume this doesn’t apply to vs modes (or at least hope so…)

• They won’t be able to make any changes based on the feedback from 4/4 (the game to be shown at the National Tournament).

• Apologies, but the anime will not be available for the PS3 version. The anime is only available on the first-run production of the game. The anime is not a separate disc, but when you buy the game you get a code that will let you download it from the Marketplace. She also says that its possible for people outside of Japan to have access to the anime.

• Someone asks about R. Mika, and she doesn’t really address the question.

• Someone asks about a portable version of SFIV, and she says it would be nice if there was one.

• SSFIV’s story takes place around the same time as SFIV… but the story itself is separate.

• Titles and unlocked colors won’t carry over from SFIV.

• There will be “something” at the National Tournament.

• There will be a special update next week on the 18th (one day early), she hints very heavily that there will be a new character reveal.

• Shiozawa said that when they were making Super Street Fighter 4, they were considering redoing the profiles of the characters in order to fix issues that had come up like the low weight. However, they decided to keep the profiles as is under the consideration that the Street Fighter IV line of titles is meant to be based on Street Fighter II.

• Someone complained that the Street Fighter IV commercials weren’t too great and asked that Capcom make better one this time around in order to make the Street Fighter IV name rise in Japan. But Shiozawa said Capcom is not making commercials this time around.

And last, the Blog did point out that there will be a BIG update on Thursday, (which means Wednesday night for us) which should include information on the new characters Etc. It is safe to assume Capcom will go the 1 character at a time route, starting with Ibuki/ Dudley although a big 3 minute video with all of them (like the alpha characters video) would be really nice. Make sure to check back here on Thursday to get a full rundown of whatever it is Capcom reveals.

With that, I leave you this little picture… I’ll just place this right here…

ZOMG!
