GolgoCast S02E09 – CES/Best and Worst of 2010

GolgoCast S02E09 – CES/Best and Worst of 2010

After weeks of failed attempts at putting together a coherent podcast we manage to bounce from the shit show that was CES triumphantly! This week myself, Mista B. Hines, Hucklebuck, and good ole’ NamelessTed, recap the week of Vegas festivities. It’s a little light in the staff area, as some of us are still partying or dying of pneumonia. That aside we still do our do-diligence in recanting our CES tale! We’re talking parties, girls, celebrities, and yes, we even made it to the floor this year!

Hell, you might even know who Mike Ross is by the end of it!…

…Oh, also we DECLARE OUR BEST AND WORST GAMES OF THE YEAR!

The SteelSeries Siberia V2 Full-Size Headset

The SteelSeries Siberia V2 Full-Size Headset

I have gone through tons of gaming headsets over the years, and this has got to be one of the best that I have ever owned. SteelSeries is already known for making quality equipment for gamers, and the Sibera V2 is no exception.

First of all they sound great! You always want to make sure that you can hear everything that is going on in a game. This headset gives you that luxury. In addition to the noise canceling foam around the ear cups, the Siberia V2 boasts a 50mm driver unit in each ear. That basically means its got some badass speakers in it that are perfect for everything from gaming, to music, to talking on Skype. I can only tell you so much about how good this headset sounds, it just isn’t nearly as impactful as when you try out the V2 for the first time.

Review – SteelSeries ZBoard

Review – SteelSeries ZBoard

This keyboard is not for me, to say the least. The board is designed with the “hardcore” PC gamer in mind and in that regard, I think they have the right idea but fail on execution. Along with the custom keysets for a handful of different games, the ZBoard software allows you to completely customize every single key on the board, along with pre-set profiles for over 150 different games. The problem with this keyboard is when you aren’t playing games it is next to impossible to use as an actual keyboard.

SteelSeries Shift Kills the ZBoard Star?

SteelSeries Shift Kills the ZBoard Star?

I’ve never been a big fan of the ZBoards. While a great idea in concept, the interchangeable keyboards always felt “chincy” to me, and I could never get the damn things to hook  to the base correctly. With that being said, SteelSeries has taken its ZBoard successor, Shift, past legitimacy into the realm of usefulness. The Shift adds a high quality touch to the specially-crafted keysets, and allows the SteelSeries established name to bring in bigger developers. This, of course, will mean a bigger variety of games, such as Aion, StarCraft 2, WoW and hopefully a Vindictus board. The preset keys can all be remapped as well, as allowing for 3 layers of on-the-fly macros across the top row. As a matter of fact, every key on the Shift can be assigned to not only a macro, but to an entire series of keystrokes, or as I like to call this feature: INSTA-WIN. There’s a bunch of good juju about this thing, but I’d imagine SteelSeries could say it better than I can, so here you go…
