I got some hands-on time with Techland’s Dead Island at E3 this year and came away with a much better understanding of what up until that point had been a mystery to me. Exactly what kind of game is Dead Island, and what differentiates it from every other zombie game in a market saturated with decaying flesh?

Rockstar Games recently announced that their newest downloadable content for Red Dead Redemption is now available for purchase for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 all over North America and Europe. Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare Pack is the fourth in a series of DLC packs for Red Dead, following Liars and Cheats, Legends and Killers, and Outlaws to the End. What sets this latest content apart is the addition of the number one super coolest element in the world: zombies.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been asking some of my hardcore gamer friends for their help in picking an MMORPG for PC to start playing. See, I have never played one on the PC. And yes, I’ve been mocked mercilessly because of that. I have a friend who refuses to play ANY game on a console because if you do, “you’re not a real gamer, you’re just a noob.” Also, I have ovaries, so I am automatically a noob, evidently. Anyway, I enjoy MMOs and RPGs on consoles, but when it comes to the computer, I used to absolutely loathe using the mouse AND the keyboard for controls. This is a girl who likes to lay practically upside down on the couch with the 360 controller floating somewhere above her head with a yummy cocktail perched somewhere to the right, so the buttoned-up constrictions of actually sitting up in a chair are not appealing.
Until now.

Follow me down my shame spiral, won’t you? I’m a little obsessed with the Call of Duty series and anything war-related. I’m also quite taken with zombies. Put those things together, and you have the happiest nerd on the planet. So when game developer Treyarch recently unveiled a zombie co-op mode in forthcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops, I literally squealed. Several times. Along with fan-favorite zombies, players can expect four updated co-op maps from World at War as part of the Black Ops Prestige and Hardened Editions, as well as the premium edition Steelbook Case. If that doesn’t tickle your pickle, how about the thought of the all-new wager match in multi-player mode, where players can bet in-game currency that they will finish in the top three? This currency is used to purchase items for your character that you can customize with face-paint, gun camos, and weapon add-ons.

So, I’ve gotta start this out by saying I wasn’t a fan of what little I played of the first Dead Rising game. Now, I think it’s necessary that I tell you that I only played the demo… However, Rich and/or Alon recently enlightened me to the fact that I was doing it wrong. Apparently, the primary objective of the game is to think of unique and fun ways to kill zombies. Second to that is the storyline. After having been given this little gem of knowledge, I downloaded Dead Rising 2: Case 0. In case you don’t know, it’s a prequel to the soon-to-be-released Dead Rising 2. After playing that through (three times now), I’ve decided that I quite like this game… so far.
